Lago Lindo Community League, in NE Edmonton, is committed to developing and delivering educational, social and sports programs. This year (2009) marks the 25th Anniversary of this great community league. The community will host a three-day celebration of family events, a dance, BBQ, slo-pitch tournament, outdoor games and many events under a “Big Top Tent”. Lago Lindo is comprised of many wonderful volunteers from diverse cultures and backgrounds who make the community a great place to live and play. Our focus is on the value we are able to bring to every community league member. We offer pre-school, sports programs and social programs that engage the community spirit and make everyone proud to be a member. We have an annual Family Day Glow Skate for all kids to come skate at the rink and spend fun time with family and friends, in the summer we host a pancake breakfast for Fathers Day, at Halloween we turn our hall into a haunted mansion that is both safe and scary. The sports programs are second to no one. We field 30+ outdoor soccer teams, 18+ indoor soccer teams, 5 baseball teams, 3 softball teams and in excess of 125 hockey players. This is a huge number of children playing together, learning sportsmanship and being a “team” player. All our coaches are volunteers who want our kids to succeed. The spirit and pride in the community is huge. The community rink is a social gathering place during the winter. There is shinny ice hockey available on the rink 5 nights a week and team practices the other two nights. During the summer months, our sports fields are overflowing with many teams having fun from organized sports or people walking their pets or riding a bicycle. Our hockey rink is often used for lacrosse practices and we hold bicycle safety course in the rink so the little tots are safe. As well, we offer summer dance programs for most ages throughout the summer months. Over the past 25 years, the community has seen large amounts of growth and we have responded well. We have organized volunteers to raise funds and build 2 playgrounds, a paved walkway that runs across open fields to our two schools so our kids can walk safely, replaced our old wooden rink with a new state of the art outdoor facility. All this was done with great volunteers. We would welcome an opportunity to celebrate our 25th Anniversary on June 27th with TSN and to utilize your $25,000 donation to help expand our current community league hall, the hub of the neighbourhood. As we continue to grow we need a permanent room for our preschool children, a teen centre for those growing up and an appropriate area for our parents and seniors as they age gracefully. The past has been great for our community and the future will be even more exciting. We hope that TSN will be a part of this exciting adventure with us.

I have lived in Lago Lindo for 12 years, and it is a wonderful community with so many dedicated and generous volunteers. Lots of great events, programs, sports teams, and so many more. Our community league has such little space in our hall, but yet we still make it work for all events, functions and programs. The very best community ever, and I am very proud to say I live here!

I was part of another community for several years until we moved into the Lago Lindo Community District. I have to admit that Lago Lindo is far above suberb compared to the community we use to be part of. The Board members dedication to ensuring that they have great events, sports for the kids and so much more is what I call a great community to be part of. I am so very proud to live in this community, thank you lago lindo!

I was on City Council when Lago Lindo was born 25 years ago and from its very beginning, the residents have been dedicated to and proactive in establishing an inclusive and progressive attitude among its citizens, young and old. I'm proud to represent such a forward-thinking and exciting commuinty, a sterling example of cooperation and good will.,

I have belonged to the Lago Lindo Community League for the past 18 years, and have served as a Director, and/or a member of the Executive for 14 of those years. Our Community League has always shown a “can do” spirit, which I believe has evolved and progressed because of the great volunteers we have that give of their time, effort and caring. People who have wanted from day one to make Lago Lindo “the best” community to live and play in, to call home. Nay-sayers can always be found in any group or community, but the core of our community can always be counted on “to find a way to get it done”, be it to get a community based pre-school (with dedicated space), or paved walkways in our parks, or a new hard surface ice rink, or to step up and coach your child’s sports team, even if you start by flying by the seat of your pants till you learn what you need to know, so that all the kids are able to play. Our kids are our future, they learn from the positive attitudes of their parents, teachers, coaches, and mentors. Lago Lindo’s future looks good! I don’t want to take a single thing away from any of the dedicated volunteers of any other Community League or group, because I know that they will say that “their” Community League or group is the best, or the most deserving, and that’s because they are the dedicated ones. Those that have, and will continue to “step up, and get er done”. But the reality is “Lago Lindo” is the best, just ask us. The prize money would be a great help in assisting the community to realize its goals, but one way or the other, it will get done.
