Mic Mac Amateur Aquatic Club Est. 1923 Mic Mac Amateur Aquatic Club was established in our community of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia on April 23, 1923. We are a non-profit community club. Our mission is to provide a safe environment for members of our community to experience various sports throughout the past 86 years. We offer quality programs with quality coaching for all age groups and abilities. Never turning anyone away, we take pride in the fact that being involved in sport has changed many lives through new friendships, building of self esteem, time management skills, teamwork and of course sportsmanship. Mic Mac A.A.C. has a long history of producing athletes with goals set as high as an Olympic berth. We are proud of all our athletes whether they are interested in recreational levels simply looking to keep busy each summer or those who prefer to train year round with dreams of podium finishes. We have several Paddlers and Rowers who train with us going forth to represent our club, our province and our country. Because our facility is ages, we are constantly looking to upgrade and improve our recreational infrastructure. In August 2009 we will be hosting the World Canoe Championships on Lake Banook. There will be several local athletes representing Canada in these Championships. We will be front and centre for this major competition all eyes will be on our facility. The winning athletes from around the world will enter our boathouse for media interviews, gather their country’s flags and uniforms and proceed on the podiums to receive their medals. We couldn’t ask for a greater way to showcase our facility. In June 2009 we will begin the process of becoming an inclusive facility where all members of our community will be able to enjoy what we have to offer. We will be installing a wheelchair lift, electric entrance doors and a unisex wheelchair accessible washroom in our large Aquatic Room. This will allow the general public as well as members to access our facility easily. The next phase of this inclusion project is to renovate our boathouse. It is necessary to address the issue of accessibility regarding the boathouse washrooms to become fully functional. Our goal is to have any member of our community who would like to try our programs be able to do so without barriers. There are programs in place now that encourage any athlete regardless of their disability the opportunity to participate. These athletes will be invited to participate in the World Championships this year under the guidance of an inclusion program call “Paddle ALL”. This is a very exciting step for the future of our programs. A prize of $25,000 would enable us to complete this huge undertaking with our inclusion project. Being a non-profit club, there is never enough revenue to do anything outside of keeping a roof over your head without help from others. Thank you to TSN and Kraft for this opportunity to realize a dream for an accessible facility so everyone will feel welcome.

Part of the money should go to Cole Harbour place not all to Aquatic club that not everyone uses. At CHP there is all sorts of fun for the entire family. Everyone in Dartmouth, Cole harbour, Burnside, Halifax and surounding areas use CHP. It also is a facilty for the Canada Winter games so it needs funds. This is why some money needs to go to Chp not all to a aquatic club

If cole harbour place had applied to the Kraft/TSN contest and made it through to the Top20, then they would have a chance to win the community refresh. As it stands, CHP did not apply and therefore cannot be considered to recieve the prize money. We are fortunate that a sport facility in the HRM has been chosen to be in the TOP20 and because it is the only site in the HRM to make it through, we should be supporting Mic Mac by voting on the 23rd and 24th. This Canoe/Kayak/rowing facility needs upgrades to allow it to become more accessible to handicapped individuals which means more people can enjoy on water sports in the HRM. Mic Mac deserves a spot among the Top 10 finalists. The community refresh from Kraft/TSN will provide not only upgrades for Mic Mac but also exposure for Canoe/kayak and rowing in atlantic canada, demonstrations of how the PaddleAll program is making a difference for handicapped individuals in allowing them to participate in on water sports, and all the events that TSN will be bringing to the community that day that go with the community refresh will allow numerous people around the lake banook area to enjoy a great day of things like basketball and roadhockey tournaments as well as free food. Mic Mac needs your vote on the 23rd and 24th of July.

Worlds are being held at Banook lake this year so the money, if won, will help upgrade the lake area as well
