In the city of Dauphin, we pride ourselves on being a spirited and motivated community. We are a small city, but we come together in many areas to lend a hand to one another’s needs, especially when it comes to sports. Our city offers a diverse selection of sports and physical activities to all ages, including: hockey, soccer, curling, baseball, volleyball, squash, swimming and golf, just to name a few. Other activities that Dauphin offers are tae kwan do, archery, different varieties of dance, and much more. Through one of our health-focused committees, the Chronic Disease Prevention Initiative, every citizen can, once a month, get a free pass to the bowling alley, swimming pool, indoor walking track and the community indoor playground. We are grateful for having these opportunities available here, and find it important to make them available to every person in Dauphin. We’ve been fortunate to host an array of sporting events, and most recently: the 2004 Manitoba Summer Games (in which 1400 athletes competed with the help of 1500 volunteers), the 2006 Russian Men’s National Hockey Team (which was a sold out event), the 2007 Safeway Curling Championships (with 28,000 people attending), and within the last two years Dauphin has also hosted high school hockey, basketball and volleyball provincials. We have also been chosen to host the RBC Cup National Junior “A” Hockey Championships in 2010. Community involvement is what gives Dauphin the ability to host these successful and memorable events. The spirit and pride of our community is shown in every season. In the summer we are home to outstanding festivals known nation-wide such as: Dauphin’s Countryfest (Canada’s longest running country music festival) and Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival (ran by over 500 volunteers). Dauphin continues to celebrate in the winter months, hosting a variety of WinterLights events which includes several activities such as a kite flying festival on Dauphin Lake and an outdoor movie night on Main Street. To our community, winter also means hockey! The spirit of the fans was clearly shown in the 2006-07 season as the Dauphin Kings, our hometown Junior “A” hockey team, lead the league in game attendance – nearly double the league average game attendance. While Dauphin is fortunate to be a spirited community with a strong volunteer base, improvement is still needed for the Vermillion Park Sportsplex. Through extensive research, it was identified that the development of additional youth baseball, softball, soccer, and rugby facilities was a major need to the youth in our community. The City and R.M. of Dauphin purchased 50 acres of land and donated it to the development of the new facility. It has been funded by a fundraising committee, and multiple grants from different organizations, along with businesses and citizens from our area. Unfortunately, it was not enough and four ball diamonds, one soccer pitch, two parking areas, and the road to the ball diamonds were never completed. The $25,000 prize from this contest would be a huge help in finishing this project!

The community of Dauphin has exceptional volunteers! Any assistance in the completion of the Vermillion Park Sportsplex would be greatly appreciated by all in the community (and surrounding area) and could lead to hosting more exciting events.

Our youth are our future. Investing in their helath and welfare determines what "their" legacy will be. Improvements to this facility will go al long way to ensuring our youth will prosper.

Dauphin is a great community that throws its support behind so many worthwhile projects. here is a huge base of volunteers dedicated to seeing facilities for youth and economic development completed for everyone's benefit, and any funding we receive towards this goal is greatly appreciated.

Wow! what an opportunity for our community. We have many dedicated people who make sport opportunities "happen" for all ages. It's great to see this effort being made to complete one of our sports venues.
